It’s not always easy being in the grooming industry and owners don’t know what happens behind the scenes of your pooches pampering sessions. It can often be a quite a struggle and an exhausting process. It’s not all sunshine’s and rainbows but both parties often love the rewards, cuddles or treats. You may drop off your fur baby at the saloon and when you arrive to pick them up, they look like a million bucks. However, as the customer you may not know what the groomer goes through to get the end results.

You will need to a little research in your surrounding area to find a groomer if the dog is required, usually based on their coat type. I’m hoping most groomers all say this but please start the grooming process once all vaccinations are completed. However, you start the process of getting them prepared to have enjoyable and relaxed time when getting pampered at home. (I will discuss this in another article next week) Also the best advice that I have gotten from working as groomer is “If your groomer won’t allow you to stay and watch, find another”.

One most important skill that a groomer will need to be good at, is to identify behaviours. Groomers/All animal professions need to be aware of the dogs limitations and even some aggression towards others. This ensures their own safety, the groomer/animal profession and other animals too.

Some things that can happen during a Pamper Session include:

🐾Some war wounds- bites, scratches and bruises.

🐾The groomers may bathe themselves in the process.

🐾The amount of dog hair that the groomers are exposed too can cause itchiness, also sometimes can get up noses and in their eyes.

🐾Some animals may come in with fleas, then they like to jump on the groomers.

🐾Groomers may experience headaches due to excessive barking/whimpering, this sometimes on a bad day become annoying but usually avoided by many cuddles.

Lastly, from my experience in this field for over 4 years, I loved the job at the end of the day. Spending quality time with the owner’s pets as well as many cuddles and kisses along the way. Actually, my favourite part of the jobs was getting to introduce new puppies to this experience and giving advice to owners about concerns they had.
