OUR GUARDIANSHIP BREEDING PROGRAM

Dogs raised in kennels often do not get the socialization and stimulation that is needed to be a well balanced, happy animal. Therefore, we like to place our upcoming puppies in forever homes or with suitable guardian families as their dog, being raised in a home environment from 8 weeks old.

At Happy Homes Dog Breeders all our dogs live as part of a family, taking part in outings and dog friendly activities. In an effort for us to expand our breeding program, we offer dogs in our guardianship program. This allows us to breed and train dogs without raising any in a kennel environment.

Puppies or young adults are available for a reduced adoption/bond fee to our Guardian Families. For our female pups, this fee will be refunded at the end of the breeding contract (between 3 & 5 years) when she has finished her breeding term. Our male pups are offered at a reduced rate with a contract of 5 years. We pay the stud owner a $300 stud fee each successful mating between 15 months & 5 years old. All breeding related vet bills are at our expense. After their breeding term for male or female the guardian family will usually keep the dog for it’s entire life. We also offer our guardian families the 1st opportunity to select one pet puppy as their own personal companion from one of the future litters at a reduced rate or to become a guardian for another pup.

If Happy Homes Dog Breeders decide not to breed with the dog for whatever reason, then it will be de-sexed at our expense and the dog will remain your forever family dog for the cost of the reduced bond/adoption fee. Happy Homes Dog Breeders will not hold the Guardian Family liable for accidental death, injury or illness unrelated to the breeding process which renders the dog unable to fulfill its obligations under this agreement, however we will retain the reduced adoption fee paid. If anything should happen whilst the dog is in our care or is related to the breeding, Happy Homes Dog Breeders will cover all expenses and give a full refund of the reduced adoption fee.

Happy Homes Dog Breeders will take the dog back in good health and dissolve the agreement for any reason, no questions asked, if the Guardian Family no longer wish to keep the dog, in which case a full refund of the reduced adoption/bond fee will be reimbursed.

Guardian Boys

The boys have a 5 year contract on them. Our studs are only required for short periods of time – usually 1-2 hrs at a time. Once the contract is finished, Happy Home Dog Breeders will cover the cost of desexing if he has bred with us.

Guardian Girls

Our guardian girls have a 2, max 3 litter contract that we try to have completed by the time the girls turn 4 but it may take longer depending on their heat cycle. The 3rd litter is at the discretion of us, our vet & the Guardian owner. The girls may come and stay with us for a short period of time when its time to go on honeymoon for 5 to 7 days(to be mated) and they are usually with us for around 8 weeks while they are whelping  and raising their litter (giving birth and feeding their pups). Once their contract is completed Happy Homes Dog Breeders will pay to have them desexed. Our guardian girls families are welcome to visit while their dog is raising a litter of pups and if the opportunities presents itself under safe & calm conditions we invite one or two family members along to witness the birthing of their beautiful dogs pups.

We expect our guardian dogs to be well cared for (grooming, training and general veterinary needs) and fed a premium diet by their guardian families.

The purpose of this program is to be able to retain the genealogy of our very best breeding dogs, whilst they lead a quality of life as a family pet, as opposed to living in a kennel like some breeders do.  Our Breeders Guardian Program is a win-win for the dog, the new owners, and our breeding program.

Who qualifies to be a part of the Happy Homes Dog Guardianship Program?

We are very selective of who we allow to be a part of our Guardianship Program. Our primary concern is that all of our dogs are in safe homes where they will be well cared for and be restricted from situations that could put them in harms way;  which could include being able to escape, becoming lost, being bitten buy a snake or hit by a car. We expect all of our dogs to be house dogs sleeping indoors in the evening. We do not allow our dogs to go to homes where they will be kept outdoors fulltime. We do not place dogs to people who want a working farm dog, nor do we place dogs to people who want to breed themselves. We want our pups to grow up in a family environment surrounded by loving people & be given a life full of mental and physical enrichment.

GUARDIAN FAMILIES MUST & ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR: (Most Of These Points Are General Responsibilities As A Dog Owner)

  • Own their own home or ensure long stable pet friendly lease agreement. (residing within 45 minutes drive of Breeders location)
  • Be interviewed by the breeder
  • Have a fully fenced yard
  • Take your dog to puppy obedience classes and then to recommended training programs  (Formal training is most important and a non negotiable) Average cost is around $35 per session.
  • Socializing the dog within the first 6 months of its life giving it lots of safe but new experiences
  • Provide veterinary care when needed and to notify the breeder of what has transpired
  • Feed a diet approved by the breeder

  • Must have pet insurance
  • Provide adequate care and love and attention

We encourage Guardian Families to think seriously before bringing a dog into the home. Please understand that a Guardianship arrangement is ideally a PERMANENT home for the dog; it becomes YOUR dog and though we offer Guardian Families the opportunity to train the dog as a therapy dog for him or her to go to a new home, sometimes it can be hard on a dog to be rehomed after it is used to you and has grown to love your family!

HAPPY HOMES DOG BREEDERS ARE TO PAY & ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR (Breeding Dogs):

  • Microchipping & transfer costs
  • All breeding, whelping & health testing related costs to do with the breeding
  • Extra food & supplementation for the bitch during pregnancy if required
  • All desexing and vet health check expenses at the end of the contract

  • Feeding, worming & flea treatments while the Bitch is with us for the 8 weeks with each litter
  • All vet expenses for all pups whelped by the bitch
  • Provide ongoing support for our Guardian Families

There are only a few reasons that we would remove our breeding girls and boys out of the care of someone in our Guardianship Program.

  • If we find out that the dog is being allowed to run loose.
  • If the bitch gets accidentally bred.
  • If we are not notified when the bitch comes in season (even if we do not plan to breed her).
  • If someone is arrested for a criminal offence.
  • If someone moves without informing us that they have moved.
  • If the dog is allowed to become too skinny or too overweight and no action is taken to correct this.
  • The dogs vet health schedule and training is neglected

More information about the actual breeding, pregnancy & whelping process will be given to our Guardian Families at time of agreement and contract.
